Bring the happy!

Holiday Tree

The fake, plastic, non-allergenic tree is finally up.  It wasn’t fun, never is, but bourbon really makes all things easier sometimes.  I have this really expensive sipping bourbon, given to me as a gift, that I’ve been milking for over three years now.

Perfect light placement, sort of.  Like a glove!

The tree also has several dinosaurs on it as my daughter was really into them for several years.  Still is to an extent, but she’s moved onto drawing them instead of collecting them in physical form.  I’ll have to post one of her drawings for a future TTT.

This tree is protected by a plant eater, stand back.

The Elf (last year for it finally)

This thing is more annoying than helpful this year.  Twice we’ve forgotten to move this creepy faced menace in our house and of course, our daughter the astute observer, noticed every time.  This was my placement after my wife had sent to bed early, she rolled her eyes and told me to not do it again.

He’s got a thing for hats.  The snowman isn’t at all happy with it.

Gingerbread House Night

My daughters school has an annual tradition of bring families together and building gingerbread houses.  We cheated this year and brought ourselves a pre-made house that was undecorated.  One family literally made a mansion, from scratch, with internal lights placed throughout….  they need more constructive things to do with their time but the thing was impressive none the less.

We had a crack in the roof, so we fixed it with icing.  Told everyone that Santa’s sleigh had an icing leak.  It runs on icing, who knew?

Out of Control Tradition

My wife has received one of these Hallmark animated stuffy things for the last 10 years, it’s getting a little crazy now.  This actually isn’t all of them, we ran out of room on the buffet server.  It’d be nice of Hallmark made these things a little smaller or provided a shelf or something to put them on.  I’ve lost my ability to find it adorable that we have so many, especially when my daughter hits every button and they’re all going at once.  I think we’re going to have a battery theft followed by a severe shortage in the very near future.

That’s a lot of snowmen, it’s like a club.  All they need is some cigars and bourbon and they’re good to go.

It sounds to me like your Christmas celebration is the stuff that dreams are made of. I recall the days — now long gone by– when the house was filled with the sound of Chritmas music on the radio or the TV, the sound of the cat meyowing and the little French poodle barking — the smell of the Chrristmas turkey baking … flash bulbs flashing …. kids fighting and screaming… the scent of artificial pine to make up for the artificial tree with the twinkling little lights …. the mess all over the house after presents were opened — My home is fairly silent now … the years have come and gone … the family has come and gone …. but I still manage to curl up in a warm cardigan with a glass of rum and coke and watch the artificial candles inside the artificial wreath on the artificial mantle with the artificial fireplace (Light bulbs and plastic logs instead of a fire)— and I am somehow quite at peace with myself — after a few tears of fond rememberance have come, slid down my cheek and been wiped away. Thank you for sharing your Christmas. It brought back a lot of fond memories to me and it surely added a lot of light to the day of one appreciative old man— me. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

I’m happy you saw through the sarcasm to the underlying message that I’m really not 100% a Scrooge 🙂

I would never consider the possibility that you could ever be Scrooge-like. I enjoyed reading your Christmas article and it actually did rekindle memories of my own past Christmases and it made me feel nostalgic, warm and good.

The dinosaur ornament….swoon! It is fabulous! 😀 And your gingerbread house is fantastic…I hope that leak doesn’t prevent Santa from making his rounds in a couple of weeks. 😉

Nope, leak is not preventative. Santa’s sleigh has an on-board icing machine that feeds the magic engine. I personally wouldn’t mind getting my hands on the sugar cookie dough machine, because that stuff is awesome!
