This weeks TTT is all about the future. I’m skeptically optimistic about 2017 hoping that a few things will change for the better and not get any worse. There are a lot of topics I have lined up for next year as I find a more regular cadence of blog posts as I’ve been a bit carried away the last few months due to the election.

Green Cities
This is one of my newest interests after having seen several documentaries on the subject. Our future will be determined by us finally admitting that global climate change is real, we need real technological advancements into alternative energy/fuels and we start reversing the damage already done. Making our cities green in every way possible is a really good start and not difficult to retro-fit into our current infrastructure. We should take some direction from Austria on how to change our approach to energy saving and environmentally friendly architecture.

Seriously, how bad ass is this car? I can’t find anything concrete that Chevrolet will actually put this car out next year, but wow, is it beautiful. I have not owned a Chevrolet (or GM product for that matter) since 1995. If they put this car out, I would reconsider my position with GM and actually purchase one of these. As I’m not like people who collect cars, I would actually drive this on a regular basis. I believe if you own a car, you should enjoy said car, unless it’s literally “one of a kind” then it should just be viewed in a museum.

I had a friend back in the 70’s in college that was an architecture major his dissertation as on design green communities..he had some great ideas and designs…but unfortunately he died in Bhutan in 1984….I’m glad to see that some of his visions are still around…
looks great….I feel the same…if you have a car then drive the damn thing…I am a sports car fan…I recently drove the new FIAT 124….if it only had a top I would zooming around town…LOL

Can I be a skeptical bitch for a moment and point out the irony that China is working on “green” city designs? How about just not polluting what they have already as a start? (Sorry.)

Actually, and I just discovered this last night after watching “Before the Flood”, China is poised to surpass the efforts of the United States in reducing climate change efforts in the next few years. They’re still heavily dependent on fossil fuels (as is America).
I included it only as an example of a green city design, it was just irony that it was done by a Chinese designer. I’m as skeptical as you are and there is no need to apologize.
A side note, Sweden is pushing to be the first country that is fossil-fuel free (for energy). Sad the U.S. isn’t leading that charge, no thanks to the oil corporations (and lobby) stranglehold on elected officials.
I’d like to go solar myself, but my wife says “I don’t want ugly looking solar panels on our roof.” (her words). I show her pictures of Germany where almost EVERY house has solar panels on the roof….. I just don’t get it.

We have solar panels – they are fab and a lot less ugly than oil or coal-fired power stations! They are quite common in the UK now and making quite an impact on energy generation, although I think we do better with wind turbines.
I like the greening of cities work, but places like Detroit are also inspirational, where it’s mainly a ‘grass roots’ movement (excuse the pun) driven by necessity.
