Life Between 0 and 1

Technology, Introversion, Minimalism, Politics and Everything in Between

About Me

geek-inside-v1-t-shirts-men-s-t-shirtHello and welcome to Life Between 0 and 1, I’m Andrew and I’ll be your host for as long as you decide to stay here and read.  While I have been writing for the better part of 11 years, what is contained here is just the last 6 years or so.  The other blog I had was from a point in my life where I was lost, had the wrong kinds of friends, and the writing was extremely personal and of course, self identifying.  Once I started up this blog I ended up deleting the old one, posts and all, as it wasn’t in the least helpful to me anymore.  What you’ll find here is essentially my tagline at the top of my site, writing about “technology, introversion, minimalism and politics.”  It’s a mixed bag of everything, but I have it categorized so you can focus on what you want to read and ignore what you don’t, just use the menu below the banner graphic.  Now, a little about me.

For as long as I can remember, technology has been a central part of my life, my core.  By the time I was 13, I managed to purchase a computer that cost me approximately $3k (it was 1992) and the first thing I did was take it apart.  I knew then that I would be a life long technology geek forever soaking up whatever new was around the corner.  My draw was always to the technology itself, so I’m very much a user of technology rather than a builder or inventor of it.  All of that changed a year or so ago when I started becoming aware of my rejection of personally used technology due to the pervasiveness it started to exhibit.  More annoyingly, I started to notice that the people around me, everywhere, allowed technology to rule their lives rather than them ruling the technology.  Despite my love of tech, worship in some cases, I never let it take over any part of my life and always set very clear boundaries.

I only recently switched from an anonymous blog to a partially named blog.  I decided that I needed to put my name to my blog rather than remain anonymous as it made more sense based on the fact that I am a Managing Editor for Writers of Words, a group of like minded people from around the world that write about all sorts of subjects.  It felt to me that I was being hypocritical by not revealing my full name instead of hiding behind a pseudonym.  My initial reasons for being anonymous track back to the fact that not even family or close friends know about my blog or what I have written about.  After 5 years writing this particular blog with a steady increase in posting and reading, I wrote Self Imposed Technology Limits to put some boundaries on myself to keep this in control and not impact the rest of my life as it has in the past.

References to anything within my life will still remain nameless and anonymous, such as “wife”, “daughter” or “mother-in-law”.  Writing helps me make sense of all the things in life that cause anger, pain, frustration, depression, and other negative feelings.  It has allowed me to express myself in a way that I have found difficult to do for practically my entire life.  Thanks for reading, although I’ll admit, this site is still completely for my own benefit.  I do love to read other people’s blogs and if you follow me, I can’t guarantee a reciprocal follow as my reading time is limited.  I don’t comment often either, but when I do, it will usually be considered, well thought out and substantive.

  1. Thank you for following my blog. I’m having a difficult time keeping up with the reading these days so there is not much writing time. Maybe again soon. I will continue to peruse your posts here to see where I might fit in. Thank you again.
