I’m Generation X

What’s the trait you value most about yourself?

TLDR answer? The trait I value most is that I’m Generation X.

I grew up largely in the 80’s, however on the younger side since I am on the tail end of the generational span. Regardless, I had two working parents where I had 2-4 hours each day after school with my younger brother. I rarely had to worry about clothing, food, or shelter as we had everything we needed and some of the things we wanted. I was incessantly bullied all through school from around 6th grade to my senior year. This bullying, I believe, created a massive wall around me and it’s been protecting me since. Until recently, I didn’t have an adequate explanation for my distance and tendency to observe rather than participate:

“Oh, I”m gen-x, sorry not sorry.”

Every generation typically embraces their stereotypes to some extent as its what defined them as they were growing more mature. Now that I’m almost into my 50’s, the crap I used to be concerned with is just background noise now. I devote less and less time to being concerned with others and their actions because I can’t do a damn thing about it. All I can control is how I react to said actions of others and my go to reaction is laser sharp sarcasm. I’m actually proud of my sarcasm and it definitely is a source of strength. Sure, my mouth gets me in trouble, but I normally don’t care as the end result is still the same if I hadn’t been sarcastic.

So that’s my valued trait about myself, that I’m a sarcastic bastard that makes people laugh sometimes.

Hmmm… You sound like gen-x to me. (Coming from another gen-x person.)
