Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution establishes the three primary eligibility requirements to serve as President:
Natural-Born Citizenship: The individual must be a natural-born citizen of the United States (or a citizen at the time of the Constitution’s adoption).
Age: The candidate must be at least 35 years old.
Residency: The candidate must have been a resident within the United States for at least 14 years.
I’m a natural born citizen. I’m over 35 years old. I’ve been a resident of the United States my entire life.
I see nothing about previous political experience. I see nothing about race, gender, religion, or anything limiting beyond those three requirements. Why don’t more people try to run for office then?
It hasn’t always been cost prohibitive to run for office at any level. That is a relatively new development that has made it practically impossible for anyone outside of political circles to actually run for office. I could be President, and if I ran, these are some of the things that I would fight to accomplish because it just feels logical and right:
- Overhaul Tax Code: Model US tax code to other countries that manage to sustain systems with simple tax codes based on gross income and pay for the programs that help their populations stay healthy, successful, and out of poverty in most cases.
- Guaranteed Basic Income: All American citizens would be guaranteed a minimum income from the government until such time they surpass a determined threshold. For example, less than $50k/year AGI would receive income to guarantee at least $50k.
- Universal Healthcare: Eliminate private healthcare completely and use the funds previously spent on inflated healthcare to support the citizen healthcare fund. No more co-pays, no more co-insurance, no more having to go without healthcare. Allow those that wish to purchase supplemental healthcare to cover anything not covered by universal healthcare.
- Political Campaign Finance Reform: Eliminate the ability of PACs, SuperPACs, corporations, and wealth donors to donate endless amounts of campaign money. Cap all donations for corporations and PACs to a percentage of net profit on an annual basis.
- Foreign Policy: Repair relationships with foreign countries that have been abandoned by the United States over the last 20 years. Demonstrate through action, not words.
- End Foreign Military Aggression: End any military action that is not 1) approved by Congress and 2) is not tied to any specific purpose or approved action.
- Rebuild the East Wing
- Create multi-party political system: Create the ability of a third party to form without the overbearing requirements that essentially prohibit a third party from forming and being successful in campaigns.
- Reform Electoral College: Modernize the electoral college to grant based on percentage of popular vote in each state. Example, 60% of the vote in Pennsylvania will grant 11 electoral votes instead of the full 19. Allows the EC to more closely match popular vote and still function as intended by the framers.
Yes, I know, easier said than done and there are multiple facets and road blocks to navigate to get any one of those implemented let alone all of them. I don’t see anything wrong with any of them as they are all obvious problems in this country. There isn’t anything other than hard work that is preventing us from bringing all of these into existence.
Ask yourself if our country would be better off or worse off if any of these were actually brought into existence and implemented. Why do we crap on those that are disadvantaged or having a hard time getting on their feet? It’s disgusting how we as a people do not have basic levels of compassion for our fellow human being. Honestly, if people weren’t struggling, would they then choose to integrate or reject society? I believe they would integrate successfully. There will always be those that try to take advantage, but part of implementing programs and policy like the above is putting in checks and balances that work to prevent corruption.
So yeah, I think I could be president. The way the system is designed now though, it will just continue to perpetuate the fraud that our political system has devolved into.

Let’s have a discussion!
